Welcome to the Sun Cup!
Get Ready for Sun Cup Saturdays!
Oh, yeah! It's that time of year that the year-round golf community of SW Florida most looks forward to: summer. It started at the beginning of this month, with ads in the paper, reciprocal lists fresh off the laser copier, and doesn't stop til Halloween, sometimes even after.
Even some of our region's most exclusive courses open their gates and let in the (courteous, dress-code compliant) masses for the same as you'd pay up north. Logo ball, towel and scorecard collections grow as the golf-addicted gobble up even more of the 130+ courses in this region. Even those who've had the privilege to play in the calm winter weather usually only get to play at one place, so summer is also the time for variety.
No one has a better time around here than the folks who play Sun Cup Saturdays. If you'd like to join us, and you find yourself around here (even for just one Saturday!), get it done! We're putting back the big orange button and pointing it each week to that week's game. Click there to sign up for the next Saturday, or join our Sun Cup Saturday Mailing List to keep up with the latest!
See you Saturday!
Estero, FL: Friday, May 3rd, 2013
After four grueling rounds – one of which was cancelled for unseasonable weather – and the ultimate test over 18 holes at Old Corkscrew, Tom Tower of Trumbull, CT became Champion of the Second Annual Sun Cup. Tower's net 66 earned him a four-stroke victory over runnerup David Wilson of Clarkston, MI, along with 23 fellow flight champions and top finishers. Tower and Wilson were the only net scores under par for the round.
JT Foster of Dalton, GA shot 74 to finish 3rd, and Dana Boyette of Nashville, TN shot 83 to claim women's honors on the day.
The remaining Sun Cup participants also enjoyed a fun day at Old Corkscrew, playing in groups for skins and other prizes.
We'd like to thank everyone who participated with us in the 2013 Sun Cup! We hope to see you in the 2014 Sun Cup, too!
The Sun Cup is SW Florida's premier amateur golf tournament, played annually on the best of the nearly-150 courses that make our region the golf capital of the world. Participants play 72 holes of golf against the other participants in their flight/age groups in net and gross score competition. Leaders of each flight then play a championship fifth round at Old Corkscrew, a Jack Nicklaus masterpiece, with a chance at raising the coveted Sun Cup and a share of the $10,000 in prizes!
Each day of great golf at the Sun Cup ends with a golf expo featuring food, swag and live entertainment. This is a great chance to check out the leaderboard and meet your fellow competitors, while also testing the latest golf gear and sampling some great food.
The Sun Cup offers a world-class experience from start to finish and regardless of how you finish, the experience and memories will last a lifetime.
